Soprano, Ruth Acheampong, was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. Identifying as a crossover artist, Ruth has experience with and enjoys performing classical music and musical theatre.

Ruth’s life experiences and years of consuming, studying, and performing music have helped her develop a mature approach to her artistry. She values honest storytelling and therefore, approaches her work with sincerity, nuance, and an open heart.

Ruth’s most recent professional credits include Uptown Singer/Shirelle in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (Segal Centre/RMTC), Jeannette in L’amant anonyme (Voicebox: Opera in Concert) and Irina in Lost in the Stars (Annapolis Opera).

In the summer of 2023, Ruth was a vocal company member of College Light Opera Company (CLOC) in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. During her time at CLOC, she played Irene Molloy in Hello, Dolly! and Marian in The Music Man to much acclaim. Ruth was part of the ensemble and played featured roles in HMS Pinafore, Trial by Jury, The Merry Widow (Sylviane), The Little Mermaid (Allana), Yeoman of the Guard, Jesus Christ Superstar and Singin’ in the Rain (Sound Engineer).

In April 2023, Ruth earned a Graduate Diploma in Voice Performance from McGill Univeristy where she completed a Master of Music degree in Voice and Opera the year prior. At McGill, Ruth was a pupil in the studio of tenor, John Mac Master.

Ruth holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Guelph where she studied with tenor, Glyn Evans.

When she is not singing, Ruth loves sitting by the lake, knitting, and watching bad movies.
